Virginia June MacDanel Hartwell

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Virginia June MacDanel Hartwell, 80, who passed away April 12, 2025 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Dr. Warren Langford, pastor of First United Methodist Church, in Crowley officiated for the services.
The family had requested visitation to be held Thursday from 1 p.m. to the time of service.
Interment was in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Virginia was born on Sept. 15, 1944, in Crowley. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and attended the University of Southwest Louisiana.
Her proudest part of her career was working at NASA, especially during the Apollo Program which produced the first humans on the moon in 1969.
Virginia was an avid pianist and enjoyed playing and listening to old Protestant hymns. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Norman Alan Hartwell Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and one brother, Patrick Shannon MacDanel and wife Leslie of Baton Rouge.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Francis Gerald MacDanel and Inez Tula Laurents MacDanel Scott; and her half-brother, Donald Hugh MacDanel.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.
